PROOFREADING AND COPY EDITING

Protean’s proofreading and editing service will give you the edge you are looking for. So that you are clear about exactly what we are offering, here are our definitions of ‘proofreading’ and ‘copy editing’.  

Proofreading
Every submission received by Protean Proofreading is scrutinised with the utmost attention to detail, to ensure that the final document has correct spelling, grammar and punctuation; that the style is consistent; and that the document contains no factual errors.

Copy Editing
This covers all the above as well as ensuring consistency of format and layout; consistency of tables, illustrations and captions; checking the hierarchy of headings and running headers and footers; and proofing alignment and spacing.

What you will need to do
Send your copy and it will be returned to you showing all the changes made by Protean. You will have the option to reject or accept each of these changes. In addition, you will be asked for clarification or verification if there is any doubt about your intended meaning.

When you return the document to Protean any changes arising from your input will be incorporated. Only when you are completely satisfied, will we undertake one final proofread before the finished copy is sent to you.

Documents can be submitted in one of three ways:

• mailed as a hard copy which will be marked up by hand.
• sent in Microsoft Word file format which will be proofed electronically.
• sent as a pdf file which will be annotated with suggested changes.
