Third party copyright: Authors and/or their publishers, when using copyrighted material, are solely responsible for seeking and obtaining the permission of the copyright holder to use the material and for the payment of any resulting fees.
Right not to quote: Protean Proofreading reserves the right not to provide a quote and not to undertake the work.
Authorisation to proceed: The client authorises Protean Proofreading to proceed with the work by signing the ‘Acceptance’ box on the official quotation received from Protean Proofreading.
Cancellation by Protean Proofreading: Protean Proofreading may return the work to the client at any time if it becomes evident that the work is in breach of copyright, is libellous, or is in breach of any law, including laws regarding vilification on the grounds of race or religion. In this case any monies paid to Protean Proofreading shall be returned to the client, in full.
Cancellation by client: If the work is cancelled by the client, monies, other than any remaining balance of any advance payment, shall be retained by Protean Proofreading.
Factual accuracy: Where practicable Protean Proofreading will check facts; the author, however, has ultimate responsibility for factual accuracy.
Any activity undertaken by Protean Proofreading shall in no way be seen as condoning the content of the work.
Author’s copyright: The client retains all copyright (except third party copyright) in the work submitted to and received from Protean Proofreading.
Guarantee: Protean Proofreading guarantees that the work shall be undertaken in a professional manner and to professional standards.
Other legal issues: The author is responsible for ensuring that the document satisfies all legal requirements; for instance, as to copyright, plagiarism, libel, incitement to racial hatred, blasphemy, obscenity, information that could damage national security and any other matters of law.
