Previously a professional actor working in theatre, radio, TV, films, film-dubbing and documentary voice-overs, in the UK, Europe, Canada and Australia. As a writer of performance scripts has devised plays on the lives of Jane Austen, Dame Nellie Melba and Florrie Young; and adapted material as diverse as A Christmas Carol and The Magic Pudding

Two decades of recording audio books has developed the  pedantic skills necessary for a professional proofreader. Reading aloud is the only practical way to get a true feel for an author’s style, to recognise the flow of the whole and to discover any misplaced or missing punctuation and misspelt words. The misplacing of a comma, misspelling of a word or other grammatical error can change the intended meaning and confuse the reader.

Forty years’ living in Australia, the United Kingdom and North America, means the nuances and subtle differences of the English language used in those countries is second nature. You can be confident that your intended reader will immediately understand, without any ambiguity, the essential meaning and character of your writing; whatever editing has to be done will be simply to let your words say what you mean

The name, Protean Proofreading, has been deliberately chosen. Meaningable to change or adapt’ and ‘versatile’, it applies equally to the services offered and to the person offering those services.
